Rising Damp Treatment & Damp-Proof Courses

Rising damp is moisture drawn up from the ground through the base of a wall, carrying ground salts with it. It typically shows as tide marks, blown plaster and salt staining up to around a metre from floor level.

An honest word first

Genuine rising damp is much rarer than the damp-proofing industry would have you believe. Most "rising damp" we're called to inspect turns out to be penetrating damp, condensation, or a simple bridged damp-proof course — all cheaper to fix. We'll only recommend a new DPC if your property genuinely needs one.

How We Diagnose It

A reliable diagnosis isn’t a quick once-over with a damp meter (those react to salts and give false positives). We assess the pattern of the damp, take readings, look for salt contamination, and rule out the far more common causes first. You get a clear explanation of what we find. Damp-Proof Course (DPC) Injection

Where a damp-proof course has failed or was never fitted, we install a new chemical DPC by injecting a silicone-based, BBA-certified damp-proofing cream into the mortar bed. It forms a water-repellent barrier that stops moisture rising any further.

Damp-Proof Course Injection

BBA-certified silicone DPC cream injected into the mortar course to create a lasting moisture barrier.

Salt-Resistant Replastering

Removal of contaminated plaster and replastering with a salt-retardant system so stains don't return.

Guaranteed Work

Treatments backed by a long-term guarantee for your peace of mind.

Aftercare

Newly treated walls need time to dry out — typically months, not days — before final decoration. We’ll advise on timescales and the right breathable finishes so you don’t seal moisture in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I definitely have rising damp?

Probably not — most damp at low level is penetrating damp or condensation. A proper survey will confirm the real cause before any treatment is recommended.

How long does a DPC treatment take?

Injection of an average room is usually a day or two; replastering adds a little more. Drying out afterwards takes longer and shouldn't be rushed.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes — genuine rising-damp treatments are carried out with BBA-certified products and backed by a long-term guarantee.
